Some people love decorating their house for the holidays, but personally, I like decorating my house for spring. While I do love a cozy, warm house, I think a bright, clean, airy one is perfect for this time of year. Here are some simple things I do to spring-ify my house….
- Replace heavy blankets and throws with lightweight linen/turkish cotton versions.
- Swap out wall art with brightly colored prints.
- Add colorful accents in pillows, lampshades, vases, and trays.
- Rethink bedding – a new pillow cases or a throw pillow can make a world of difference.
- When in doubt, buy tulips.
And no, I don’t go out and buy all of these things all at once. Just like the holiday decorations, I pull many of these spring pieces out of hiding and add one or two new items each year. This year my bed got a new throw pillow and two new lampshades for the bedstands are en route to my house from Minted – (they are having their anniversary sale right now – use code: nine for discount)! Shibori is also a popular trend these days so I’m updating my family room sofa with one of these and one of these. I think they will complement the pink pillows I already have there and brighten the entire sofa. I’ll post new photos once they arrive!
When we renovated our house a few years ago, we intentionally made very neutral choices for the walls and furniture so we could add color in accents and swap things out when the seasons change (or when our kids have destroyed them and they need a refresh). When I look at my house I can’t help but think how my taste in clothing is similar – I’m drawn to neutrals with pops of color. Anyway, here is a mini spring house tour to show you how I’ve added some happy, bright pieces to reflect the season. Links to most everything are at the end of the post!
