My husband and I went out for dinner on Saturday night because apparently you are supposed to find time to go on “dates” after you have kids. Driving to dinner we discovered that the last time we went out by ourselves was in August… always room for improvement in 2013! Since this was such a rare and special occasion I broke out the flat iron and curled my hair. No this is not an oxymoron to curl with a flat iron. It is my most favorite hair trick taught to me by one of my sisters. (By now you are probably catching on that I inherit all kinds of great tips from my sisters…. this sister in particular is my fashion/beauty guru.) Since I have no daughters to pass this wisdom on to I figured I would share it with all of you.
This technique does take a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, you will be hooked! The curls hold much longer than they do with a typical curling iron and you have more control over the “wave factor” i.e. ringlets vs. beach waves. I have long hair and not much time to get ready (unless I bring a bucket of toys into the bathroom with me and/or turn a blind eye to my children as they toilet paper the bathroom), so I usually just curl the ends. This method is super fast/mom-friendly – my entire head took approximately 10 minutes.
Here it is in 6 easy steps (after washing and blow drying):
