Friday Faves, The Baby Edition

March 22, 2013

In full bloom, ready to pop, turkey is done…however you’d like to phrase it, as of yesterday I am officially all of these things – a.k.a FULL TERM! (Please, little buddy, feel free to make an appearance at your earliest convenience.) As the much anticipated arrival of my third baby draws near, I find myself feeling that I haven’t really done much to get “ready”. When the boys are napping I walk in the nursery, take a lap, decide I am ready enough, then head to the sofa and attempt to put my feet up. I think mental preparation for this baby is what I need above all else. It’s almost comical to look at the difference between how I prepared for the birth of my first baby compared to my third. Take a look.

Getting Ready for First Born Baby:

(this list was compiled by my cousin, passed down to my sister, and then to me.. and, yes, I have everything on this list and more)

Getting Ready for Baby Number 3:

Ok so that conversation didn’t really happen….. I did place an order with diapers.com and have washed, folded, and organized my 0-3 months baby boy clothing bin.  Besides diapers which is really all I bought, I will dedicate this post to my to my favorite, must-have baby essentials. This list was created under the mindset of happy mommy/happy baby (not necessarily in that order).

friday faves baby.001

1. Aquaphor – This stuff is magical! Babies have sensitive skin and get lots of mystery rashes, but this ointment cures all! Great for chapped lips too or “chipped lips” as my oldest son calls them. (Note: you may consider buying two tubs, reserving one for top half extremities and one for bottom half to avoid cross contamination…. just a thought!)

2. Mustela PhysiObebe – I am obsessed with this no-rinse cleanser! Newborns don’t need a bath everyday because it will dry out their skin, BUT after pooping and spitting up all day long they kinda start to stink. I use this all the time between baths or whenever the little beans need an “Italian Shower”. It smells so good…just a squirt on a cotton ball to get in those little neck creases, behind the ears, and does wonders after an up-the-back-blow-out…. those with kids know what I mean. This is one of my favorite baby gifts to give and receive (and that is not a hint, mom, I already bought 2 bottles).

3. Aiden and Anais Swaddle Blankets – No matter how hard I try, I can never swaddle my babies as tight as the nurses in the hospital. I’ve practiced on dolls, watched YouTube videos on perfecting the art of swaddling, but it is just not one of my strong suits. These swaddle blankets are the best, though. They are the perfect weight and size and, Liz, if you are reading this, please send yours my way if Baby E is done with them??

4. Clinique All About Eyes Serum – Up every 2-3 hours + lots of visitors + lots of pictures being taken = need for something, ANYTHING, to make my eyes look less puffy from lack of sleep. I like this stuff. It’s sort of fun to roll on, cooling, and I like to pretend that it really works.

5. Hoegaarden – or any brew of your choice. I will refrain from listing all the reasons a new mom might need a beer every once in a while. I will mention, however, that a lactation consultant once told me that the yeast in beer helps with milk production…. and that was all I needed to hear.

I’ll email you this list, Pam! Jessica started it and my sister and I have added to it over the years.

Thanks, mom… I was hoping you would say that!

Dad, I put that line in there for you!

I even know what an “up-the-back-blow-out” is…. not sure I should be too proud of that though 😉 (I won’t mention it to my college friends)
