Four Friday Faves

September 19, 2013

1. September is like New Year’s for moms. It’s when we get our life together. We adhere to a schedule. We pretend like we are super organized with our kids school papers and daily activities (even though we just file things away in an organized place and only sometimes read them… Oh, just me? Right. A resolution for the January New Year then.) We have a cute little office nook in our house, but let’s be honest, school papers, Bed Bath and Beyond coupons (and other Val Pak coupons that I always save, but never use) pile up in a “crap pile” on my kitchen counter… among bills, receipts etc… Come on, everyone has a crap pile, right? Well, crap pile be-gone because I have a new handy-dandy crap pile organizer thanks to Target. Drumroll please…………

School papers, bills, coupons, receipts, mail etc…. these items all have a home. So, what next? Ill probably be running for PTO president with these organization skills.

2. And not only did I decide to organize my papers, but my produce too. Previously, I piled all of my produce in one bowl… and my bananas tasted like garlic and my apples smelled like onions. It just wasn’t working. And then I bought this Bleached Acacia Three Tier Stand from Terrain and my produce problems were solved.

Cute, right?

And it doesn’t take up much space:

3. “Mommy, I yike beets.” Yes, a developmental letter-change-up that I secretly hope my son never outgrows….or his love for roasted beets. These have become a weekly staple side dish in my house. My wise mother told me I don’t have to make beets the suggested way which entails roasting them with the skin on and then peeling it away… its a purple-pinkish nightmare on your finger tips. Instead, you can peel them raw with a carrot peeler, cut, roast and serve. A million times easier. Check it:

Roasted Beets

Preheat oven to 425.

Peel beets (3-4) and cut into bite size pieces

Drizzle with olive oil and toss to coat

Season with  sea salt or coarse kosher salt and fresh cracked pepper

Roast for 30 mins or until tender

Serve as-is or sprinkle with goat cheese, add to a salad, whatever you wish.

I pop these like candy. Seriously.

4. And finally…. totally off topic, but I got a new pair of shoes. Actually, my husband bought them for me for my 7th anniversary. The wool anniversary. So he got me some hemp Toms – close enough? Either way, I love them, especially for fall with skinny jeans. Definitely mom friendly. And just because everybody else is doing it, I decided to take a down-the-body selfie (you know, the ones that fill your Instagram feed) to display the cuteness of these shoes:

Yes, I was off by one button all day and have a 5 month old attached to my hip, but notice the shoes…. definitely winners.

I love that fruit organizer! And I seriously need a ton of organization in my house, so the folders appeal to me too. Nice shoes 🙂
