React Mobile (mommy-ing just got like 3% easier)…HUGE!

October 18, 2013

I am 31 years old. My older sister is 33 years old, and the younger ones are 29, 27, and 24 respectively. If you called my mom right now she would probably know what each of us ate for dinner last night, what show we watched on TV, and our whereabouts of the day. It’s a mom thing. We need to know where our kids are and what they are doing.at.all.times. Apparently even when they are all grown up. (And no, none of us still live with our parents). Sometimes it drives me nuts, as the one being kept track of, but I get it. My oldest son is 4 years old and I am already freaking out about him getting his drivers license in 12 years let alone letting him ride his bike 2 feet off our property. If the hospital offered a GPS chip insertion at birth I would have seriously considered it….

But moms around the world who never thought they’d sleep through the night again for fear of worrying about their children rejoice! Cause there’s an app for that. Yep, an app that offers as much peace of mind as a GPS chip implanted at birth.

I’ll admit, when I was first approached to write a post about this app I was all like, “La di dah, this is probably some lame-O app that my readers would not at all relate to… HOLY CR#% my prayers have been answered I NEED THIS APP!” Yep. That’s pretty much how it went.

So here is how it works. Let’s say you are trusting your 13 year old son to walk 3 houses down to hang out with a friend. You have him pull up this app, press the “Follow Me” feature, and his selected contacts (i.e. Overbearing Mom) can track him by GPS.

HomeFollow-meScreen

When he arrives at his destination, he presses the “I’m Safe” button to allow everyone (i.e Overbearing Mom) following him to know he made it there safely.

If there is an emergency (hopefully not on the 3 house walk, but I presume their will come a time that the leash gets longer) he taps the “Send SOS” button and his pre-selected contacts are immediately notified via text and email….
and he is automatically prompted to call 911.

911prompt

The app has additional settings to post your alert to Facebook and/or Twitter, and to select your country because the number 911 is not universal (i.e. a user in the UK would be prompted to call 112/999  instead).

Do you realize how huge this is?!!! Not only can you gain peace of mind with your children, but for yourself, your significant others, your friends etc….

Where are all of my runner girls at? Training for a half marathon means I am straying at least 7 miles away from home sweet home. I run in broad daylight, in heavily trafficked areas (as you all should be doing too), but this app definitely give me a sense of protection, especially when I am supposedly “de-stressing” on my runs.

Or what about when my husband works late and walks dark city blocks to his car?Suddenly not “alone” anymore.

I think this is genius. And you know what else is genius? This app is free! So go ahead, download it now and share it with all your friends.

Oh, wait, that’s my mom on the phone (for the 5th time today) and she wants to know why we didn’t have this 20 years ago??

Here’s the hook up:

It’s a good thing they didn’t have this app when we were growing up …. You and Liz would have been grounded for life!

I love those safety features. We’re doing it old-school right now with walkey talkies, but this phone looks like something we’ll need in the near future for my eldest son.
