The Best of Sisters to Sons 2013

December 29, 2013

And then one day I decided to write a blog. So I wrote some sample posts to test it out. And THEN one day, I accidentally posted my sample posts to Facebook. And some people actually liked them. And THEEeen, I wrote 94 more posts and loved every second of writing this little blog. And this is my 95th post……..Thank you! Thank you!…. for reading, commenting, liking, and sharing my blog…. and most importably for making me feel like I am not alone in this whole motherhood gig. Based on my stats (something I have learned to find are very important to bloggers) these were my top 10 posts this year. Enjoy the recap:

top10

10. ish – People love hearing when you admit you aren’t perfect. But even moreso when people admit they aren’t perfect and things still turn out okay. So go ahead. Wipe that paci on your scummy t-shirt instead of sterilizing it and pop it right back in that baby’s mouth. Guess what? They will be just fine. (I’m 98% sure of that.)

2. Trail Etiquette – Okay my hand is still cramped from creating these tedious little drawings in Paintbrush. Whether it was my artistic talent or the fact that you all totally know what I am talking about when it comes to trail running, this post was a popular one! (and is it just me or is etiquette one of the hardest words to spell???)

3. I Can’t – Warning: this post is a little deep. Like poetry. Like therapy. I think I need to go for a run just thinking about this post.

4. Make Ahead Breakfast Casseroles – My favorite part about this post was that I got a video text of a reader making the egg dish – hope it was good! These are my family favorites…. oh, and feel free to be a little heavy-handed on the Grand Marnier.

5. 8 Things I Wish My Kids Understood – A simple list that moms and dads resonate with. I seriously think these thoughts on a daily basis…. and when my kids don’t listen, well then I just eat their damn pizza.

6. Why Moms Cry on the First Day of School – This might have been my first sentimental post ever. I usually write about the funny/pull-your-hair-out/messy side of  motherhood, but I let loose on this post causing many to blink a few tears.

7. Elf Fail. Thank God this blasted Elf has been rocketed back to the North Pole for the next 11 months. I have many strengths. Elf-ing is not one of them.

8. A Little Story About Love – Here was my real tear jerker….A post I almost didn’t publish because (gasp) I sort of admitted my struggles as a mom. My husband read it (he is my proofreader by the way so any grammatical errors can be blamed on him), and he told me to not think, that people would get this, and just to publish it. Minutes later I had emails and texts asking for the tissues.

9. Holiday Gift Guide for Toddlers/Preschoolers – Ok I get the popularity factor on this post.  It’s sort of like having a personal shopper, right? Thanks to the grandmother’s and aunts my kids got everything on this list… totally enamored by their new toys I have been able to complete approximately 5 thoughts without being interrupted since Christmas morning. This is good stuff.

and the number one most popular post……

1. 10 Ways I’ve Changed Since Becoming a Mom – a quick little top 10 list that I almost didn’t publish because I thought it was “blah”. Apparently a lot of people also talk in the 3rd person and even more people hear phantom baby cries in the shower…..and for the record, I still hear them. And when I am vacuuming too.
