January 15, 2014

Sometimes I buy  strawberries that aren’t organic.

Sometimes I pull into the driveway and sit there with my kids buckled in so I can make a phone call or read an email.

Sometimes I sit there for an extra minute so I can check Instagram.

Sometimes I skip words in storybooks (most times my kids call me out on this).

Sometimes I count the minutes until nap time.

Sometimes I leave the dishes in the sink.

Sometimes I’d rather do the dishes than play.

Sometimes I lie and say McDonald’s is closed.

Sometimes I let my kids eat McDonalds.

Sometimes I do activities like this:

And sometimes I think it wasn’t worth the mess.

Sometimes I lose it.

Sometimes I really lose it.

Sometimes I pretend not to see when my kids sneak cookies out of the pantry.

Sometimes I throw in the towel on making dinner and go buy a rotisserie chicken.

Sometimes I pretend to not remember that we forgot to brush the kids’ teeth after they are already tucked in.

Sometimes I let my kids watch an extra show just so I can straighten my hair.

Sometimes I let my kids watch an extra show just because….it’s quiet.

Sometimes I feel guilty about these things.

Sometimes I don’t.

Because, after all, it’s only sometimes.

In the era of “perfect pinterest parenting” its nice to see a real mom posting REAL thoughts about parenting and how we sometimes fall (very acceptably) short. Reading through your list I was whispering “guilty!” to myself on at least a half dozen… well ahem, almost all of them, and even had a few of my own to add. We are human. We are real, and in the age of photoshop and airbrushing, it seems as though so many are sanitizing and spiffing up their words in the same manner. Thank you for being REAL.

Love This! I sometimes (ahem…always) do all of these and I think it is perfectly fine…(especially the sit in the car thing and skipping words in a story) LOL

PS My 6 year old can read and she has officially added at least 10 minutes to story time…LOL…

Hi Lindsey, I found you through the SITS Girls Tribe Building Challenge. I just stopped by to say hello and take a look around. I’m looking forward to getting to know you, and I think this was the perfect post to land on! As the mother four kids ages 5 and under, I always like hearing that I am not alone in my “imperfect” parenting because let’s face it…we all feel like failures quite often in today’s world. Thanks for sharing, and have a great week!
