Friday Faves – Paraben Free Edition

January 17, 2014

Ok I’m about to get a little hippie/crunchy on you….or maybe you’ll just call me just plain paranoid. Either way, Friday Faves is back (due to popular demand) and this week I am talking about paraben free products.

parabenfreeWhat is a paraben, you ask? Parabens are a chemical that are used in products as a preservative. Why is this bad? Certain studies have indicated certain parabens to be linked to cancer, and without getting into too much detail, that was all I needed to hear to start avoiding them…. especially when I was pregnant or nursing. Do I use all paraben free products? No…. But, if there is an alternative that I like just as much as a paraben-filled product, then why not use the “safer” version. Here are some of my top picks! Stay tuned to the end for a little giveaway!

LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant Vanilla Lavender 2.0 oz
When women are nursing, it is obviously important to think about what you are putting on your body. I am no expert, but I did happen to notice that armpits are in close proximity to boobs. Not sure I want to be rolling triclosan, aluminum, phthalates, or parabens (the yucky ingredients in regular deodorant) so close to my feeding station. The Healthy Deodorant is aluminum and paraben free, smells sort of delicious and smooths on nicely with a subtle cooling effect. Might not do too much in the “perspiration” department, but if its an everyday deodorant you are looking for, this is my top pick! A little steep for a deodorant at $14…. but, to me, the cost outweighs the “what ifs”….

  Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer
Here is a budget friendly daily face moisturizer spiked with tons of vitamins a fabulous scent, but free of harsh chemical sulfates, parabens, petrolatum, dyes or phthalates. I slap this baby on every morning.

Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel – SENSITIVE
That pregnancy glow I was supposed to have during the 9 months my boys hung out in my belly…. yeah, that never really happened for me. I received this sample of Juice Beauty’s Green Apple Peel Sensitive in my Birchbox about 6 months into my last pregnancy and quickly became a fan of this organic beauty line. Totally safe for pregnant and nursing moms…. a product you can use without worrying about what chemicals are seeping through your skin. And this gem is a little facial in a jar (you can click the picture to go directly to the Juice Beauty website for more info). Get that “glow” one way or another… even if you have to buy it! Check out some of their other products on
My Favorite Things page.

Arbonne CC CreamArbonne Intelligence CC Cream

I’ve talked about different CC and BB creams in the past, but have yet to find one that is paraben free. This CC cream by Arbonne is a 10-in-1 does-it-all-type of thing…..primer, protector, concealer, hydrator, mattifier, brightener, blemish coverer, are you still reading cause there is more… pore refiner, comforter, and complexion controller. This product completely sold out last year at Arbonne, but it’s back! Haven’t heard of Arbonne? Arbonne is a 33 year old company founded in Switzerland offering over 400 products that are vegan certified, botanically based, hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, and never tested on animals.  All products are formulated WITHOUT animal products and by-products, gluten, soy, whey, formaldehyde-donating preservatives, mineral oil or other petroleum based ingredients, chemical dyes or fragrances, artificial colors, parabens or PABAs. They also follow European standards (MUCH stricter than the U.S.!)

And something for your little ones! Arbonne also has a full baby line. There is a lot of buzz these days about the chemicals in baby shampoos and lotions. I’m not going to mention any brand names, but…… if you’d rather play it safe, check out this line. The baby care set make a great shower gift as well!

Oh, and guess what? My favorite Arbonne consultant wants to give a free product to one lucky reader! If you purchase one of these Arbonne products, or any others on the Arbonne site you will automatically entered to win a your choice of either any ABC baby product or the FC5 Ultra-Hydrating Hand Creme. When you check out as a “New Client” just enter this number 13457709 where it says “Referral Arbonne Consultant ID” and you’ll be entered to win! If you’d like that personal touch and/or my instructions are confusing :/ email Sara at sasa722@yahoo.com to purchase directly and you will be entered to win that way as well. If you contact Sara directly she can also explain the different discounts that Arbonne has to offer. You can also book a party with her for tons of discounts and and a free gift! Even better, your party can be virtual to include friends and family who live far away. I hope you like this line as much as I do!

So that’s it! What product do you want to try? What products do you use that I should try?

Great finds! We do only paraben-free in my house. It took me a long while to find makeup that I love but I’ve finally got it all!

So glad to see a familiar face too!! I really think this is a great product for being natural…. I’ve tried Toms as an alternative and like this brand much better. Again, not for sweating, but for everyday its great!

Holy chemicals batman!!! That’s great that these are paraben free, but what about the loads of other chemicals in them? (Some even proven to be potentially harmful, such as retinyl palmitate.) Kudos to Lavinila though! Their ingredients seem to check out as a-ok! Please, please check all your labels for ingredients! Not just fluffy claims on the fronts! They may have boosts of natural, organic ingredients, but they are in there with layers of bad things to. Another great option is Ava Anderson Non Toxic products, absolutely NO harmful chemicals in their products!

don’t miss a post
