A Snow Day in Numbers

January 22, 2014

12 inches fallen. 14 degrees. 2 school cancellations. 3 minutes of celebrating. 23 extra minutes of cartoons (or maybe it was 46? Long day ahead….) 2 kids on a mission to play in the snow. 7 minutes to find the missing boot. 2 minutes of fighting over who is wearing which pair of mittens. 6 complaints about ill-fitting mittens i.e. “My fumb! My FUUUMB! It’s in the wrong hole!!” 10 deep breaths. 4 feet stuffed into boots. 4 snow pants stuffed into boots. 2 big toes that “can’t wiggle in these dumb boots”. 2 jackets zipped. 2 heads topped with hats. 1 super big itch on the back that won’t go away unless we peel back a layer. More deep breaths. One warm snuggly baby to stay with mom. 3 hints dropped to dear hubby to shovel the driveway. 5 minutes of snow fort building, snowflakes on tongues, and shrieks of pure joy followed by 5 minutes of whipping wind, bright red noses, and numb toes.

snowday

4 knocks on the door to come back in. 37 seconds of dramatic tears about how cold it was. 30 seconds to undress. 1 big pile of snowy mess. 2 mugs of hot chocolate steaming. 2 quizzical faces about missing marshmallows. 1 guilty answer, “Sorry guys we are all out!”… did this snow day sneak up on us or is it just me? 3 frowns. 3 sips – they are only in it for the marshmallows after all. 18 minutes on Pinterest trying to find something to do. 4 key supplies too short. Seriously, why don’t I have googly eyes? Thank goodness for 5 containers of new playdoh.

2 seriously cute indoor snowmen did the job.

30 minutes of paper cup tower building and knocking over with a soccer ball.

5-ish different snacks. 2 books read. 3 two and half hour naps…. Hallelujah! More soccer. More snacks. 1 round of the boys’ favorite game: daddy- is-the-dragon-mommy-is-the-princess-and-the-3-superheros-save-mommy-game”…. What’s that? You don’t know that one?…Oh, and 1 big glass of cabernet with my name all over it. Until the next snow day…. cheers.

This is a great post. My son just turned 18 and we used to do lost of fun things like building with cups and using cups and the telephone. Thanks for sharing and reminding me how sweet life can be with the little ones.
