How to Share Photos Privately with Seahorse

September 22, 2014

seahorse share images privatelyI read somewhere recently that we are living in the age of the image. Images are everywhere and as a mother of three, I am guilty as charged. My iPhone photo gallery has thousands of images of my kids….. And while I may not find the time to write milestones in their baby books, thanks to images, I’d say their childhood is pretty well documented. But guess what? I don’t want the world to see all of these images. Shocking, right? Sometimes I just want to share my child’s yogurt covered face with the people who, by default, are forced to think it is equally adorable…like say their grandmothers and my husband. Emailing and texting these images all day long is out of the question. Who has time for that? There must be an easier way to share photos privately, right?

Recently I was introduced to Seahorse, a FREE app for documenting life together in a shared (yet private) experience. So when you take 15 pictures of your kids in a bubble bath but don’t want to plaster them all over social media, you can share photos privately and in full, original resolution through Seahorse.

seahorse appMy husband and I first started using Seahorse when I was at a weekend conference and was away from my kids overnight. My husband created a “scene” in Seahorse with all the pictures he took of the boys over the course of the weekend so I could get a fix of my babies while I was away. He didn’t have to text or email these pictures individually and was able to share them privately with just me. Here is a screen shot of the “Scene”.

seahorse appOnce a scene is shared with you, you can comment and like the photos. And yes, you can bet I commented on the fact that my kids were drinking soda while I was way?!?! Did you mean to include those, Daddy dearest?? #whathappenswhilemomsaway…..

One of my favorite features of Seahorse is that once a scene is created and shared with whomever you chose, that person can add their own photos to a scene. This is ideal for family vacations, weddings, and other group celebrations or outings so that photos can be shared from multiple sources.

My little sister just got married so I created a scene for her wedding and shared it with some family members:

Everyone I shared this scene with can view my photos and add their own.

Now we have photos stored in original resolution in a single location. When scene is created and shared with another person or group of people, there is co-ownership of the photos and they belong to everyone invited to the scene. Seahorse is always private – you choose who you share your photos with.

Another fun feature includes the “Magic” button where you shake your phone and it brings up a slideshow of old, forgotten photos. This feature is perfect for making time pass while waiting in line at the bank, waiting carline, or waiting for the 7th inning of your child’s t-ball game to end (kidding).

Sounds like a wonderful app! Too many of the photo apps focus on sharing rather than privacy, so I’m pleased to see this.
