Confession. When chambray tops made a resurgence a few years ago, I never thought they would stick around as long as they have. And so, I never bought one. They seemed 80’s-ish and reminded me too much of Tiffany Amber Thiessen. When I told Kaytlynn and Abby that I don’t own a chambray top… well, cue the drastic neck swing/jaw drop combo……iknowiknowiknow. It’s a wardrobe essential and after perusing on Pinterest, it’s clear that a chambray top just might be the most versatile piece of clothing in your closet. It’s not in my closet yet, but I’m getting one. Maybe today.
Here is the backstory on this outfit. I had this top and it was strictly for “fancier” affairs. Like dinners without kids. And since that doesn’t happen often, I wanted to know how to get more use out of it.
So we started with this as a base layer:
Then added the infamous chambray button down:
Okay. I know you’re not impressed yet, (the blurry picture doesn’t help) but just wait! Now we have a neutral with great texture (the “fancy” shirt) and a subtle pop of color from the chambray. When combined, it gives this outfit a much more casual, everyday look.
And if you remember from this post, layering is key.
And so then we add:
Bravo A and K…… thanks to you and my new friend Chambray, my schmancy date night top will now see the world more often.
Your turn! Throw a chambray over something unconventional and see how it turns out. I’d LOVE to see your pics… (you can use hashtag #stschambrayedit on instagram and we can admire all the ways a little chambray can expand our wardrobes. Click here to follow me if you’re not already!)
Now let’s take this get-up for a test run.
I know. Those shoes. I can’t say they are mine, but who knew clogs could be so…..sexy???
This outfit makes me happy. The end.
Chambray Buttondown: (old), but see below for options (couldn’t add this one to widget but got one for the pregnant ladies too!
Vest: Anthropologie Lacy Sweater Vest (no longer available), but this I’ve tried on and is on sale. This I almost bought but didn’t have the guts (#shouldacouldawoulda). This one is insanely expensive, but if I owned it I’d wear it until I am 80. It’s just….. (insert dreamy gaze)….perfect. Oh, and different look, but lovovove this one.
