Dear Sisters to Sons,
I have a WWAW (What Would Abby Wear) question. With fall quickly approaching (ah!) I’m eyeing up one too many pairs of colored pants. I have a pair of hunter green straight legs from Anthropologie that I bought last winter and I have a pair of cranberry J.Crew cords from last fall and now I can’t decide whether I love or hate these Top Shop high-waisted things.
My problem is, I never know what shoes to wear with colored pants (especially corduroys, and especially pants that aren’t skinny leg) in the fall. Skinny leg I feel like I’m fine with a bootie but what about wide leg or flare? I.Don’t.Even.Know. Can Abby help? 🙂
Barefoot all year
I love the idea of a fun colored bottom. It is an easy way to create an outfit without much fuss. I usually stay away from true red on the bottom because red can be a deceiving color. Because of its bright nature, it tends to make you look “bigger” than you actually are. I would stick with more deep burgundy or wine if you want a warm color.
In terms of shoe/pant combinations, you can still wear a bootie with wide leg pants. A clog is another alternative as well. I am very specific about the toe shape of shoes, especially with wide leg or flare pants. I like a to wear the highest heel I possibly can with wide legs so that it creates a super long leg. See picture below:
Or you can go for a soft, pointed toe- anything too round will make your legs look shorter.
When wearing a colored bottom stick with a neutral shoe color: either black or brown.
Here is a graphic to help!
Happy pants weather to all!
