Late last week my husband informed me that we were invited to an event in New York City. And the event was on the upcoming Monday.
My reaction: Yay for NY! And holy crap what am I supposed to wear to a work event when I don’t even work? Nonetheless I procrastinated, not by choice, but because of….. kids, and waited until Monday morning to figure out what to wear. In my head I thought “cape, black pants, heels- combo” would be a safe bet, but what do I know about “work event” fashion? I just wanted to blend, but still feel NYC chic, because well, we don’t get out much 😉
First stop was Target, and now I know what you are thinking, but they have this amazing cape in the new Adam Lippes for Target line and I saw it on another fashion blog and it is chic and very seasonally appropriate. Sadly I didn’t have my size in the store, and probably for the best because the print is bold – not the best for “blending in”.
Next stop was Nordstrom and that is where I met the cape blazer – the item I never knew I needed until I tried it on. It is the answer to so many wardrobe problems. It’s work event savvy, date night sexy, and the answer to “what jacket to I wear to a wedding?” – we all have that question right?
Let me illustrate with some cape blazer inspiration:

And here is how I wore it to a “work event” – more specifically, it was a tasting event showcasing New York’s best farm-to-table restaurants, called Just Food. Foodie heaven.
P.S. Can anyone actually walk in heels? I mean, sheesh!
Shop the look:
Mural Cape Blazer // J. Crew Tissue Turtleneck // Rebecca Minkoff Necklace // BDG High Rise Pants // 30th birthday present Shoes 😉 // Bag (my grandmothers <3)
So what do we think? Are capes just for super heroes or can mommies rock them too?

October 14, 2015 at 12:07 pmI almost bought one of these last month (it was a piece from the Scandal for The Limited collection) and now I’m kicking myself for not grabbing one! I didn’t realize how cute it would be 😀
