Maybe your company partakes in “casual friday” or maybe you can just wear jeans whenever(!!), but a few people have been asking how to make jeans work appropriate. Rule of thumb(s):
- Save your rips for the weekend (obviously).
- Keep it polished (think dark washes, and “slack-like” lines i.e. wide leg trousers/high-waisted flares)
And as for what to wear WITH those jeans, there are SO many options, but I consulted with my sister and she came up with a few top options that are on trend enough for double duty wear on the weekend, but also work savvy for those more casual days. And although these looks are completely different, it’s all about “neck interest” (either showing it, or concealing it).
Off-the-Shoulder (ish)
These tops show just the right amount of shoulder that is work appropriate (most can be adjusted so the entire shoulder is not exposed – for work I would not pull down as far as shown on some of the models). A cropped jacket or blazer can always be layered over if needed while you are in the office. When it’s time for happy hour (because that’s what working people do on Friday’s, right??) lose the jacket and you are margarita-ready.
Pair with full skirt on regular work days and a wide-leg denim trouser for casual days.

Another option is to cover the neck and show off those arms. Wear with a belt at waist and a full skirt, black culotte pants or your skinny black pants and pop color shoe on regular work days. Casual fridays? Try it with a high-waisted flare and a heel or a bootie.
I braved the rain to give this second look a test run….(and disclaimer: my jeans aren’t even CLOSE to being buttoned. Thank goodness for bella bands).
