I’ve been asked this question a lot in the past 9 weeks: “SO! How is life with 4 kids?!” And to be honest, it’s not much different than life with three kids. That whole thing about once you get past 3 kids you might as well keep having more. Well, it’s sort of true. Chaos is chaos is chaos, right? And by the time the 4th kid comes along, you are sort of used to not sleeping and that newborn stage isn’t AS scary anymore. Except for rambunctious 3 year olds in a 3 foot radius of the baby – now that is scary. The biggest difference for me with this baby was the lack of change. Minus a two day stay in the hospital, life has continued on as usual, but this time with an extra delicious baby in tow. Baseball games, school functions, playdates, weddings, camp drop-off; where I go, baby goes. There was no rest for the weary. Luckily, NuRoo Baby sent me a package of three must-have baby products that have helped make this transition more seamless.
With my previous babies, I would hibernate in my house for the first three weeks only going out if absolutely essential. But with older kids, that grace period is non-existent. They are on the go and so am I. And, by default, so is the baby which means I have to nurse him wherever that may be.
So having a scarf that transforms into a nursing cover? Let’s add that to my “why didn’t I think of that first” list. Pretty ingenious.
Kids climbing on my head, not included.
Now, let’s back up a minute to being a mom of multiple kids. After, oh say, your third kid, you sort of get an ego. You think you know all things baby, all the tricks, best practices, and the best gear… which is why I was surprised that I had NEVER heard of this next product before – the newborn pocket??
The best way I can describe this is that it’s sort of like a kangaroo t-shirt. Yeah. A t-shirt with a pouch. For moms practicing skin-to-skin contact, this keeps the baby super snug, helps regulate newborn body temperature, increases milk production, improves emotional well being for both mom and baby – less crying/colic for the win! It also doubles as a baby carrier which was perfect for me this summer. When using as a carrier, there is a belt that you wear right under the baby’s bum for extra support so mom can be hands-free. And with our kids, I need all the free hands I can get!
And finally, and possibly most important must-have baby product – the secret ingredient for a good night’s sleep (if that is even a thing?)…
..the 3-in-1 swaddler. This swaddler grows with your baby with an inner newborn pocket and removable seam. And the best part? It doesn’t require a nursing degree – because is there anyone that can swaddle a baby better than the nurses in postpartum recovery? I don’t think so.
And now the only thing I have to worry about?
Getting the other ones to bed….
