I have the pleasure of calling this next style crusher a dear friend! Aimee and I met through a playgroup when her oldest daughter and my second son were just a few months old. And it’s no wonder moms who playgroup together stay together – they are the ones who get you through the trials of those first few years and also share in your excitement when the little ones reach certain milestones i.e. “OH My Goodness! He shared a toy! Cue the marching band. Jazz hands all around!” You know what I mean? They are right there “in it” with you. I could go on and on about how awesome Aimee is. I’ll skip all of the obvious descriptors (smart, genuine, selfless etc…) and she is all of those things, but she’s one of those people who really listens when you talk, she has mastered the art of throwing a kid birthday party (she nails that sweet spot of age appropriate and awesome without being over the top), she’s willing to do things outside of her comfort zone (she recently started her own business with Beautycounter), and she is always game for a fun adventure whether it be a concert, a trip, or just a glass of wine with girlfriends, because yes, that can always be an adventure.
Now let’s talk style. Aimee is eons taller than me – she can rock a maxi dress like no other – and has an effortless, classic “preppy casual” style. I always ask the ladies who do these features to wear something that they feel great in. Aimee incorporated two fall wardrobe staples into an easy, everyday look: a military jacket and awesome booties.
How would you describe your style in 2 words? Preppy Casual
What song best describes you? Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Band, and Fire and The Flood by Vance Joy
What song best describes the dinner scene at your house on a daily basis? It Won’t Be Like This For Long By Darius Rucker
If you had 30 minutes to yourself, what would you do? A pedicure, pop into local boutiques, watch a show, go for a walk on the trail, or read a book.
Would you rather….. put the kids to bed or do the dishes? Sounds crazy but dishes – I love hearing all the pitter patter upstairs – the kids running from room to room, giggling as they get ready, negotiating which books to read, and stillness as they tune into their dad reading them their favorite books.
What is your go to gift for new babies? A Nose Frida! Sounds crazy I know, but I started giving family and friends “my favorite things basket” which includes products I either used all the time when my kids were little, items that were lifesavers and items you need in a pinch, but you just don’t know that until ALL the stores are closed.
What’s the best piece of parenting advice you’ve received? Or give us some! What may work for one child, doesn’t necessarily work for the next. Don’t be afraid to parent each child differently to play to their individual strengths.
What beauty secret do you swear by? Coconut oil – it’s such a great multi-purpose product. I love it is a safe alternative as a make-up remover, moisturizer, quick lip balm, and cuticle cream.
What are your secrets for balancing work, family, and friends? Book in advance, don’t be afraid to get a babysitter, and make girls trips and nights out with your husband a priority. My husband and I use a joint calendar and send each other event invites to schedule on the go.
Aimee is also wearing her Beautycounter go-to’s. I’m a huge fan of the line, especially their make up!
A huge thank you to Aimee for letting me feature her in this series!
