Why do I run? Health benefits, alone time, energy boosts aside, these things really have no bearing on my desire to lace up. Since becoming a mom my reasons to run have taken a slight….shift.
Reasons I run….
I run for avoidance reasons, i.e………. laundry.
Because of socks.
Putting socks on squirming bodies when we are already 4 minutes late.
Socks that don’t “feel right”.
Favorite socks that we can only find one of.
Grocery store trips with kids.
Realizing what lies beneath my couch cushions.
Legos, sprinkled like fairy dust, all over my house.
Legos stuck in vacuum cleaners.
4 year old boy birthday parties.
Math homework that involves regrouping.
Pee everywhere (boy moms you feel me on this one).
Three year olds.
“Simple” Pinterest crafts.
The hours of 5-7pm.
….and okay, the mac and cheese remnants add up.
I run because it’s free, fast and effective and quite honestly I don’t have time for much else. I run because every time I run, I come home and I realize that wet toilet seats aren’t the worst thing in the world, that socks are a good enemy to have, and that three year olds, like the one who is running down the driveway towards me with open arms because the 25 minutes that I was gone seemed like a lifetime to him, just might be the cutest being on the planet.
And also, I run so I am never outrun and because “momming” is a sport, and sometimes I like to dress the part.
Why do you run?
