Fall Outfit Inspiration (12 Head-to-toe Looks)

October 26, 2016

I thought it would be helpful for those “I have no clue what to wear” days to round up some fall outfit inspiration from this season and last. Do I actually get dressed everyday? NO! Just ask my friends at the bus stop. But when I have a meeting or an event or just feel like the day deserves more than jeans and a hoodie, I like to have a few go-tos. Most items in the outfits below are still in stock, but if not, I linked similar items. If you have specific questions about fit/size, leave a comment and I will help you out. Happy fall!

Timeless Trench + Pops of Plaid

michael kors trench, madewell plaid

One of the best things about fall is JACKETS! Come winter, we will all be in our puffers, but until the temps drop below 40, play around with lightweight coats. I love a timeless trench coat. This one is waterproof and hooded (score!) and is also lightly lined in the body. I am wearing a small for reference. I always size up in jackets so I can wear bulkier layers underneath.

Monochromatic Love

One of my favorite effortless looks is a play on monochrome. Shades of gray always work. This top comes in several colors and has fun “back interest” detail. Gray wash jeans are also a wardrobe staple – swap them in the rotation instead of your classic blues. Fringe booties? Always a yes.

Not-so-basic Turtleneck + High Waist Flares

turtle neck, high waist jeans

This turtleneck is, dare I say, sexy?! Check out the back. Wear it with a cami during the week, and show a flash of skin for a date night. High waisted flares are insant leg elongaters and an open toed bootie is a great option for fall in southern states and/or girls who still have a pedi 😉

Bell Sleeve Dress + Scarf

madewell dress, workwear, blanket scarf, booties

“Sleeve interest” is one of the top trends this season. I love the subtly of that trend on this dress. It also comes in a striped version. The bag (which you can wear as a back pack) is sold out, but similar and same brand is here.

Neutral Layers

A delicate tunic always looks great paired under a chunky knit. This one is sold out, but I linked a few similar below. Wearing the same gray jeans as shown a few photos above.

Bomber + Floral + Choker

The bomber jacket is THE jacket of the season. I linked a few at various price points. This floral top is on super sale right now and comes in three motifs. Booties are super old (from Old Navy), but linked some of my more current favorites. Jeans are old AG, but I included me new favorite pair of distressed skinnies that are half the price. And lastly, the lariat choker – this necklace is super versatile and totally on trend.

Blazer + Casual Tee

j.crew blazer, camo tee

I love mixing a more polished piece with an everyday basic. This ruffle blazer is super fun and the gold trim/buttons give off a nautical-esque vibe. I included some favorite classic blazers below as well. And the camo tee? Gotta love Target!

Long-line Vest + Statement Necklace

nordstrom anniversary sale, #nsale

What to wear over a white t-shirt and jeans? Add a draped vest and a cool necklace. I’m also wearing released hem crop flares and booties. When the temperatures don’t allow for that, swap them out for skinnies and boots. I am so excited that this necklace was just restocked in a bunch of new colors – outfit maker!

Fringe Poncho + Faux Leather Leggings

This look is chic, yet sooo easy and super comfortable. I was actually pregnant in this photo. Ponchos are great for pregnancy and nursing! This one I got for $11 at Forever21, but sadly it is long gone. I added a few options below at various price points. The leather leggings are so fun and only $29. I also included a pair by Spanx that are a bit pricier, but then again, they are Spanx.

Oversized Sweater + OTK Boots

what to wear thanksgiving

I love this cozy look – perfect for a casual Thanksgiving or football game at a friend’s house. The OTK boots give a slightly more styled look, but I would also wear this outfit with cool sneakers. The exact sweater I am wearing is sold out (from Urban Outfitters), but I linked some of my favorite similar versions below.

Bold on Bold

how to wear turtlenecks

Ok let’s just call this a J.Crew catalog inspired look and call it a day. I’ve never met a striped turtleneck I didn’t like. This skirt is a few years old and I can’t find anything as “bright”, but I’ve added a few other pink tones and some suede minis as well. They are all over this season – especially ones that button up the front.

Classic Fall

blanket scarf

It doesn’t get any more classic fall than jeans, boots, a white top/sweater and a gorgeous blanket scarf. This look is foolproof – well, as long as you know how to tie the scarf!

Girl, you’ve got me hooked on vests! This wasn’t even on my radar until I started reading your blog. Also, I love that the high brown boots (not OTK) are still being styled. I have a great pair that I love to death. Now, I’ll need to invest in the high black OTK boots!
