Three Wow Factor Winter Tops

December 13, 2016

There is nothing I like better than a standard, cozy pullover sweater. No really, I could live in this. Recently, however, I’ve been drawn to the not-so-standard pullover – a pullover with a little extra something. It’s much easier to find “going out somewhere other than my couch” worthy tops in the summer. But in the winter? What do you wear for a night out on the town that has that is as fun, but still keeps you warm? I’ve partnered with Nordstrom and have come up with three wow factor winter tops that keep you snug, but are interesting enough to warrant a double take and lots of “where-did-you-get-that” comments (in the best way, of course).

The Unexpected Turtleneck

First up is this turtleneck. From the front, it’s the perfect everyday top.

Oh yes. I’ve actually posted about this top before, but this time I decided to lose the cami underneath and show how you can wear it to show a little flash of skin.

A turtleneck on a date? You heard it here first! Actually my friend has this same top and said she wore it out to dinner and everyone was commenting that it is the ONLY turtleneck in the world that might actually be considered sexy. And ok. I get it. This might be too much skin for some. It might be too much skin for me, BUT I played around with a few different things and found that a super high rise pant shows less back, but still gives that little peek.

On the Fringe

Another way to stay warm in style is to play around with knits. I was browsing through Nordstrom’s great selection of sweaters and found this super fun fringed number (similar here). I paired with with my favorite faux leather leggings that at $29, I’m convinced everyone needs to own a pair of these (wearing a size small in both for reference). This is a slightly “edgier” look, but you could easily tone in down with your favorite pair of skinny jeans.

Shimmer and Shine

High shine is one of the season’s best trends and there is no better time to bring on the sparkles than during the holiday season. I was drawn to this sweater first because of the subtle shimmer, but also the cut out neck details. Again, I paired it with the same leggings as worn above and borrowed a scarf from the hubs (literally) for a little color (and warmth). This is the perfect house party outfit. And score, this sweater comes in maternity sizes too!

And because this is such a busy time of year and sometimes we can’t wait for an outfit to ship – I love that Nordstrom let’s you buy online and pick up in the store. No lines, no hassle.

Thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post. All opinions and outfit selections are my own.

Is the sparkly sweater itchy? Is it true to size? I love the look.

Emily no it’s not itchy and I wasn’t wearing anything underneath either. It’s not butter soft but definitely not itchy as I am sensitive to that too

I hate to be nosy – but when shopping it would be helpful to know your height and weight – I really appreciate you mentioning the size your wearing, but it would be more helpful if I had a frame of reference. Thanks!
    I love all your choices!

Hi Erin! No worries! I am 5’4 and honestly I don’t own a scale, but I wear a size 2 in pants. Does that help?

I’m really loving your blog! How does the cream split back top run? I’m 5’4″ so would love to know what size you are wearing. Thanks!
