I met Monica almost exactly a year ago, when my baby was 6 days old. She did my hair. She made a new mama who just gave birth feel pretty. I immediately put her number on speed dial and the rest is pretty much history. Since that day, Monica has come to my house, endured the chaos of my 4 boys with a smile, and has not only become my favorite hair stylist of all time, but also my friend. I sit at my kitchen counter, she asks me what I want to do with my hair and the conversation always ends with, “I trust you. Just do whatever you want!” And then she works her magic right there and then in my little kitchen. The concept is truly ingenious.
Every time Monica comes to my front door I immediately comment on her outfits. I think the last time she came over she was wearing a strapless dress under chunky cardigan and cowboy boots. It was only a matter of time before I convinced her that she needed to do a Reader Style crush. I am truly honored to introduce her to you today, officially!
Tell us a little about yourself: I’m Monica Bada, new to the Philly area from Tennessee and I work as a Regional Stylist for Concihairge (see bottom of post for a giveaway!), a traveling hair salon that brings salon quality hair to the comfort of your home or office. My territory includes some Philadelphia suburbs as well as Concihairge’s recently launched territory of Center City. Follow on Facebook and Instagram: @monicabadaconcihairge
Tell me about the looks you wore: Where would you wear it? Why do you love it? I would wear both of these looks to work (minus the heels) and while we’re out and about in the city. I think they are both fun, transitional outfits that can be dressed up or down. I feel like that’s the quality that defines my wardrobe more than anything else.
How would you describe your style in 5 words or less? Eclectic. I choose pieces I like from all different genres of styles and just make it work!
How many days a week do you put on real clothes and/or what is your work style? I would say 6 out of 7 days I wear real clothes because of work and weekend outings. On Sunday you can usually find me in my work out clothes, hair pulled back in a bandana, strolling through the Italian Market.
What hair product do you swear by? Ooh this is a tough one! I believe everyone should have dry shampoo in their collection of hair products. This is my favorite spray version, and this is my favorite powder version. It’s such a fabulous styling product for so many reasons! Pro tip*: spray dry shampoo in your hair before bed to start the oil absorbing process overnight. Spot treat in the morning prior to styling.
What’s your favorite pair of jeans? Madewell high-rise skinny
Most worn item in your closet? Right now, my easy throw on summer dresses. Pair with some cute sandals and you’re ready to take on the grocery store, brunch with friends or a city stroll.
Now that you’ve moved to Center City Philly, what’s your go-to coffee spot? Any favorite restaurants? My go to coffee shop is Gleaners Cafe. It’s so charming and in the heart of the Italian Market. A few favorite restaurants are Vintage Wine Bar for a happy hour spot, Alma de Cuba for date night and Hawthorne’s Beer Cafe for a casual dinner and drinks with friends.
