The Sunday Brief

August 20, 2017

Over the past week some thoughts might have popped into your minds….

Some of these thoughts may have included one or more of the following:

a) Wow, Lindsey should probably hire an editor…

or

b) Talk about being prepared! Lindsey is already sending us outfits for Memorial Day next year!

or

c) Should we be concerned that she is drunk this early in the morning?

I am happy to say that A is the only truth. A little back story for those of you who were not privy to the “oops(es)” I made this week. I sent out not one, but two newsletters with the incorrect links and I have come to learn that once you send an email, you can’t unsend. With all of the technology in this world, why haven’t we figured that one out people? Anyway, after those mishaps I was gonna be darn sure that next email was perfect. I checked those links not once, but like 17 times. The photos matched the captions. The posts were, in fact, the posts I intended to send out and I was like 103% sure the email was perfect. I pressed ‘send’, refilled my coffee, and then went about my morning making breakfast for the kids etc…feeling quite accomplished if I do remember correctly.

About 10 minutes later I heard my inbox dinging and opened it to see several emails all with the same question: Memorial Day?! Don’t you mean Labor Day?!.. insert explicative of choice. And seriously red cheeks. And pit in the stomach. And hand in face. All of this followed by three texts from friends and family members checking in on my mental state and questioning if I could possible be pregnant because “baby brain” might be the only explanation for all of these mistakes. And to squash that rumor quickly – no I am not pregnant, but I have come to learn that whether the kids are inside your body or outside your body, your brain is always at least 50% on them – thinking about them, watching them, doing things for them despite what you are actually doing. You can only hope that whatever task you are doing only requires 50% brain capacity. Except most times it doesn’t. There are a few situations where my brain needs more…. and apparently sending an email to a few thousand people is one of them. And putting on a duvet cover. The world must stop once per week when I am trying to figure out that blasted thing.

And I am telling you all of this because I live by the motto, 3 strikes and you’re out. So yes, I’ve decided to take a little break this week. My brain needs time to recharge, clearly, and I want to soak in the last days of summer with my boys. Not to worry, I have some fun content scheduled to hit the blog this week, but if I am not posting as much and/or responding to comments and emails as quickly, that is why.

When I come back next week, hopefully I will be back on my game. This is the first summer I have ever worked full time (teaching perks!) and it was a million times more challenging than I thought. Working moms, give me all of the advice. More camp? More babysitter? Less worrying that they are bored when you are, in fact, working? I never in my life have wished summer away until this one. It comes down to the fact that  I sorely under estimated the number of days home we would have and the number of obligations I had on the blog front the balance I finally thought I achieved last spring, was buried under the piles of laundry that have overtaken the second floor of my house. Because oh yes, as soon as you think you have your ish together, you walk upstairs and I swear the baskets start laughing at you…..

But enough about me, you are here for the Sunday Brief, so here are a few things that struck my fancy this past week when I wasn’t busy mixing up holiday weekends…

I Swear I Wasn’t Drinking // But I sure do love wine. Family friendly wineries, anyone?

Put the S in STEM // A good read on getting your kids all science-y.

Run + Hide // … in some good old fashioned camo. This adorable camo pullover by Sundry (normally runs $80 a pop) is on sale for $34! #addtocart

Pass the Tumeric // According to my sister (the healthy-ish one), tumeric is having  a moment. Here’s the recovery cocktail you never knew you needed until now. After my X-Force workout this week, I’ll be making this in vats. Locals, if you want a free session send me and email and I can hook you up!

Deal-eo // Lord & Taylor is having a sale on fall clothes! Top picks include: the jeans that stole my heart, a pretty little knit, and a wardrobe staple.

Lunch Break // Let the overzealous lunch boxing of September begin with these “easy” school lunch ideas. Can someone tell me what is wrong with a good old fashion sandwich? Sigh.

Heart Eyes // I may only make boys, but I’ve got pink in my soul. Or, should I say sole. How cute are these?

So Popular // These fall ready finds were the most coveted items by Motherchic readers this week…. slip on sneaks, a classic trench, these budget friendly jeans, and I received tons of messages saying how happy you all are with these bralettes (such a steal too!)

And, that’s all I’ve got.

Happy Sunday (at least I think it’s Sunday….)

xo,

Lindsey

“Hire” an editor – not “higher”! Gah, I know the mom brain is so real with my own four. I feel your pain!

I read your Memorial Day post and never even noticed you mixed up holidays! My brain is only 50% after having my two boys home all summer. So don’t feel bad, I was right there with you!

You have a great sense of humor. Enjoy the well-deserved break!

Oh and my kiddos are still pretty young so I can’t speak from personal experience, but I think a little more camp, babysitting and boredom are all good things!

Lindsey, we’re all human! We can all relate, don’t beat yourself up for it! We’re not perfect and that is absolutely fine. Thank you for providing great content on your blog, you are doing a great job!

If you didn’t start the brief today with your admission I would have never known! I guess my two littles take up at least 50% of my brain power too! At least the part that knows which holiday is in which month:) Thank you for all your great content and the humor/ humility you bring to your blog. Best, Corrie

These mistakes, and your reaction to making them, are one of the many reasons I love reading your blog. You are so down to earth and you are so funny! Enjoy your last few weeks of summer with your boys! : )

I remember in early summer when you posted you would be mostly home with 4 kids & not much camp, and I thought to myself, “How is that going to work?!” 🙂 Yes, more camp and/or childcare is the only way to WAH with kids. And keep your sanity.

don’t miss a post
