With the holiday season in full swing and what always seems like an endless cold-weather season ahead, I figured now would be a good time to start talking about winter wardrobe essentials. That’s code for boots and outerwear. The reason fashion people love fall so much is because you can flaunt your cute sweaters all day long. No matter where you go, the world can see them. But come winter, let’s face it, I am basically buried in a parka and the only people who get to see my cute sweaters are my kids – after I’ve thawed and removed my jacket 20 minutes after entering my home. Drowning in layers means one thing – great outerwear is a must.
A great coat doesn’t have to be super expensive. I recommended this coat to The Motherchic world a few years ago and it is still a favorite (similar here and here). The belt cinches the middle to give shape, and the faux fur trimmed hood gives that cozy/chic vibe. This coat pairs perfectly with over the knee boots – my go-to when I’m seeking comfort and style. You guessed right, they are flats. This will be my uniform next week when the kids are off from school and we are doing all the things (concerts, shows, parties…. maybe a little ice skating if we are lucky). Which brings me to my next piece – the backpack. Outings with my kids require 6 hands. Since I only have two, I need to make sure they are free, which is why a cute little backpack is my savior. Add in some cashmere gloves, and pretty little studs and I’m basically ready for any winter adventure. Preferably one that includes hot chocolate and heaters.
