A few weeks ago I shared the Vital Proteins Beauty Collagen supplement that I use and many of you asked for the smoothie recipe. But first, let’s be honest – anything with the word “collagen” in it and I am ALL over it these days. Apparently it’s not just something you can slather on your face and pray to the wrinkle gods that it will bring the elasticity back into your skin – you can also eat it. Beauty from the inside out……sign me up! But first, why collagen? Collagen peptides help to restore your youth – glowing skin, shiny hair, strong nails (sort of how we looked when we were pregnant! Or 18. Take your pick.) In addition to these, let’s be honest, “vain” reasons for taking a collagen supplement, it also helps with gut health, bone/cartilage strength and deeper sleep. And it turns out there is not much collagen in our diet which is why I have turned to the supplement. For years I have been making banana smoothies for my kids and I always wind up scarfing down the remainder because they are pretty darn delicious. Here is my grown up version with a few extra special additives for my overall health. My Vital Proteins Beauty Collagen Smoothie Recipe……
Recipe:
4-5 ice cubes
1 banana (potassium!!)
2 scoops Vital Proteins (I like coconut vanilla)
1/2 TBSP cocoa powder (antioxidants!!)
1 TBSP peanut butter or PB2 Peanut Butter Powder (protein!!)
Handful of spinach (fiber!!)
1 cup cashew milk (or regular, soy, coconut etc….)
Honey (optional)
Throw it all in a blender in any order and blend until smooth. Depending on your sweet tooth you can add honey or agave nectar to sweeten.
** There is also an unflavored Vital Protein supplement that you can stir into anything – even coffee!
Please note, I am by no stretch a dietician, so make sure you do your own research before adding something new into your diet!
