Last year I did a post on classic style, and turns out not much has changed. Well, I guess that is sort of the point, right? There are certain pieces that are anchors to every great wardrobe – the pieces that get the most use and are integrated into your daily looks. But when you wear them all together in one look, something just clicks. Ok fine, just call it a Meghan Markle moment if you must. This year my classic style is all about basics with a subtle statement piece in the form of a gorgeous collarless sweater blazer. Check out the look below, plus a round up the epic J.Crew sale happening now, and a fun Q&A and the bottom of this post!
J.Crew just launched their “icon” collection which includes all of those classic wardrobe staples that never go out of style. And today most of them are 40% off! Shop my favorites below and the entire icon collection here.
Annnnd, not sure if you heard, but J.Crew is having a pretty epic sale in the form of 40% off your purchase… here are my picks!
Q. As a busy mom of 4, do you follow a weekly dinner menu?
A. Quite honestly most nights I fly by the seat of my pants. With so many sports at night and no time during the day to prep anything, I find myself making the same things over and over. A few go to’s are these ground turkey quinoa bowls, sausage and peppers are always a crowd pleaser, and this one pot chicken dish. And other nights, it’s grilled cheese and apple slices – I’ve accepted the fact that this phase of my life has no room for being gourmet. Maybe in 10 years?
Q. How big is your closet?
A. Not big at all! But thankfully my boys don’t have a lot of clothes (yet) so I steal space in their rooms and have several clothing racks at my office.
Q. What’s your best style tips for people that wear a size 10-12.
A. I am a firm believer that it doesn’t matter if you are a 2 or a 10, but you need to dress for your body type. Once you have identified your shape, highlight your best features (this handy guide might help) and a little confidence goes a long way!
Q. What’s your must have for fall?
A. Every fall I gravitate towards cozy cardigans and great booties. This fall I am totally crushing on all things leopard. Below are some of my favorite purchases this season so far….
Q. How do you manage to blog with 4 kids? What are the hours you work?
A. Running this blog is a full time job for sure. I have two full time women on my team and one of my sisters also works part time. I work during the hours my kids are in school and am home to get them off the bus and I have a nanny for my baby. Once the kids are in bed, I usually work for a few more hours from my couch.
Q. Do you ever miss teaching or having a more “structured” job instead of always working. Seems so nice to be home and flexible but I can imagine that’s hard too.
I love this question because there is so much I can say about having your own business and the pros and cons. But to answer the first part of the question first – honestly I am too busy to miss teaching! I definitely miss the people I worked with and am always so inspired when I walk into my kids’ schools, but I feel very fortunate to be able working 100% on The Motherchic. The hardest part is never being able to turn it off. I feel like I am working constantly and because social media never sleeps, my inbox is always full, which is a good problem! And the pros are countless – it’s flexible, FUN, and I get to work with some amazing women and connect with amazing women (yes, that’s all of you!!) on a daily basis.
Q. What’s your favorite thing to do with your boys in the fall?
A. We have a fire pit in our backyard and you would be amazed at the memories we’ve made just hanging out, listening to music, roasting marshmallows. We are always on the go, so it’s those fall nights at home that I really cherish.
