What’s better than sliced bread? Sliced bread that you made yourself. Who knew how easy it is to make your own delicious bread with just a few simple ingredients. For me, the hardest part is just waiting for it to be done!! And the smell of freshly baked bread that floats through your house…I have to say, it just might be better than a good candle. Check out the recipe below, and then let me know how it turns out!!

Recipe

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp rapid yeast( 1 packet of yeast)
  • 3tbsp honey
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats

Directions

Place water, honey and yeast in a bowl and let stand for about 5 minutes to activate yeast. Add oats, flour, Olive oil and salt. Mix with dough hook in mixer or by hand until a smooth elastic ball has formed. Dough should be a little sticky, just starting to pull away from mixing bowl. If you need to add more flour add 1-2 tbsp at at time.

Remove bowl from mixer with dough in it. Throw damp dish cloth over the bowl and let it rise for 1.5-2 hours or until almost doubled in size.

Punch dough and knead with hand for about 1 min. Slightly flatten it out on a smooth surface, tightly roll it and place into a greased, non-stick bread pan. Push dough firmly into pan making sure that it is evenly placed in all corners. Cover with damp dish rag and let rise for another 30-60 min.

Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Serve and enjoy 🙂

Keeps for about 3 days.
