At what age is a “2.5 inch inseam” no longer appropriate? Actually, don’t answer that. Fashion is all about feeling your best and I will admit to several pairs of 2.5 inch inseam shorts that I love, especially after a good spray tan, you know, to mask the spider veins that I’ve inherited c/o of motherhood. But those shorty-shorts aren’t always practical (especially with kids) and also not always appropriate.
On the flip side…..the term “Bermuda shorts” can be equally as scary. How long is too long? How short is too short? THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS THAT HAUNT MILLIONS OF WOMEN EVERY SHORTS SEASON. Am I right? Before we throw in the towel commit to only wearing dresses, I decided to give the mid-length short a road test. I headed straight to Nordstrom.com, searched “denim shorts for women“, sorted the shorts by length (love this feature!) and viola, here is a huge selection mid-length shorts. Not too short, not too long. I searched through, read reviews and orders 2 pairs that I styled below. And I can’t believe I am going to admit this, but I was pleasantly surprised. I felt like not such a regular mom, but a cool, sophisticated mom. I feel like Kate Middleton would approve.
Look One // Joe’s Frayed Denim Bermuda Shorts
Bermuda length, these are not. I found them to be slightly shorter than the tradition Bermuda length. They have a 5 inch inseam and a mid-rise. The hem is stitched in place and the wash is the perfect medium blue. I found them to be true to size but size down if between.
Look Two // Wit & Wisdom Absolution Denim Shorts
Slightly longer in length, at 7.5 inches (cuffed), these shorts also have a slightly more relaxed fit. I did size down (wearing a 0 for reference) and would recommend doing so if wavering between. These are a lighter wash, but also come in a medium blue here.
