Thank you to Macy’s and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.
As summer is coming to an end, I am *trying* to get my house back into order. If you are wondering what kind of damage four boys (make that 5, including my husband) can do to one’s home during summer break, woof. You can only imagine. In my dream world I would get the entire house repainted, the rugs replaced (or seriously cleaned), and an entire army of people with teeny little toothbrushes scrubbing out the nooks and crannies of disgustingness left behind from that little thing called “summer.” Or I could just refresh my master bathroom and have one small space that I can walk into and go, “Ahh, well, isn’t this nice.”
I went with the later. A master bathroom refresh can be quite simple and makes a world of difference. When those towels start smelling like mildew and the bath mats are permanently matted no matter how often you wash them……it’s time. Pinks, blues, and grays are cool and calming, so I went with that scheme when redecorating my 140 square foot haven.
I went straight to the Macy’s bath section for new towels (once you go Turkish, it’s hard to go back). Plus, now through August 18th you can an extra 20% during Macy’s Big Home Sale using promo code HOME. Also, if you haven’t looked at the bottom of your toothbrush holder lately, don’t do it! I’ll spare you. Just throw it away and start fresh. While you’re at it, just get an entirely new bathroom accessory set (soap dish, trash can, soap dispenser, etc…) It’s sort of like registering all over again. Oh, and if I didn’t mention this before, my husband and I just celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary, so this bathroom refresh was my gift to us (me).
As a nod to our newlywed days, I thought his/her bathmats would be sort of romantic/nostalgic? Also, my husband needs in-your-face reminders. Doesn’t he know his sink is on the left? He is constantly using my side. And how do I know this? Let’s just say, after I brush my teeth, I rinse out the sink. He does not, but I digress. This boy-mom, likes to add pink whenever possible – this striped bathmat was a no brainer.
My sister has that “interior designer” gene, and when I asked her what else my bathroom needed, she immediately sent me links to plants. It is amazing what a little green can do to liven any space, especially a bathroom. I went with these over-sized palms for a little chic and a lot of drama.
It’s amazing what a few little swaps can do for the overall aesthetic of your bathroom. Of course, I was meant to take a before photo, but was too excited to redecorate that I forgot. Oops.
