What do fashion and traffic lights have in common? Answer: nothing. Except for the fact that we are using these universal signs to tell the world our fashion resolutions for 2020. What we are going to GO for in the new year (that would be green), what we are going to stop doing (you got it, RED!), and what we will continue doing (yellow) – just go with it. Each fashion editor on the Motherchic team is sharing her own fashion resolution below. Tell us yours in the comments!
Lindsey’s Fashion Resolutions
// Start exploring new retailers to add a fresh perspective and new personality into my wardrobe, but in a more intentional way. Even though my job is to share fashion, I want to be more intentional about pieces that will have longevity in your closet. A few brands that come to mind that I haven’t shared a ton in the past? Athleta, Evereve, Everlane, Aqua, H&M Conscious, Revolve – any other suggestions?!
// Stop forgetting about accessories. Stacks of bracelets or a simple pendant necklace can complete a look. Often times I run out of the door in jeans, a sweater and sneakers. With minimal time and effort, I want to work on making this basic “uniform” more styled. A few pieces I want to integrate into my everyday outfits below….
// Continue mixing investment pieces with less expensive things. I believe there are certain pieces worth investing in (and I’ll share those things), but also believe that being fashionable doesn’t have to mean it’s expensive. Can you wear a $25 bodysuit with a designer jewelry? Yes ma’am!
// Start planning my outfits ahead. If I lay my outfit out the night before that saves me 5-10 minutes in the morning. Bonus points for laying out workout clothes to kick start the day. The easiest way to do this is to create a uniform of sorts. My current uniform is a pullover sweater, jeans with subtle details and fancy kicks.
// Stop washing my jeans between every wear. By washing every other wear (or every 3rd wear) the jeans will maintain their shape and fit for a longer time. I’ve had the best luck with Madewell and Mother jeans.
// Continue pushing the boundaries with fun silhouettes and bold patterns. On my wishlist this year is a bold two piece set that I can mix and match with the other items in the my closet. A printed maxi is a bold statement, but I am sure I can find many reasons to wear and re-wear all year long.
// Start getting comfortable. Like, really comfortable. It’s no secret I don’t own a pair of sweatpants (please don’t faint), but since doing the TMC x Bulldog Yoga Challenge along with other workouts I am looking to step up my athleisure game. A few things I’ve had my eye on below!
// Stop analyzing. If I throw on an outfit, I feel comfortable and I like how I look – WALK OUT THE DOOR! No need to look for imperfections. I’d also like to stop pushing my jeans to the side. They deserve some spotlight too 🙂
// Continue trying new trends! Loving the soft, buttery leather (well, faux leather!) look between skirts, shirts, dresses – even shorts! And, of course, I will always continue with my love of dresses, skirts…and puff sleeves.
