It’s funny. When we make capsule wardrobes I have a really easy time scaling things back to make them under 10 pieces. This month, however, I struggled……. and we have no where to go! Maybe it’s because there is the potential to do so many different things at home that we need more pieces to help us get through?! First and foremost you’ve got to have the lounge pieces. Then you’ve got to have the anti-lounge pieces for the times when you feel the need to be productive and feel like your normal self. You’ve also got to have a trusty pair of jeans just as a reality check (rumor has it, your sweatpants lie). Next you need to have outside activewear clothes (essential for sanity) and comfy sneaks to go with. Then there’s the at-home workwear pieces just incase you need to do a spontaneous Zoom and need to throw on a business savvy top. So do you see why I struggled with this a bit? We have enough things to worry about these days than to have too many pieces in our capsule, so I went with more is more. Also I still change 3 times per day so there’s that. Meet your April capsule that is as cozy as it is cute if I do say so myself…
The April Capsule….
The White Tee // Gotta start with the staples and when I find a great tee under $15 I must share. Not only do I love this one because it is sustainably made, but it’s not see through and has a great fit. It is not super long – hits right at the hips, but love this length so you can give it a slight tuck into your sweats or jeans or shorts without having to worry about too much extra fabric. Also, it’s 100% cotton and made in the USA.
The High-Rise Ankle Mom Jean // What a better time than now to test out a trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. I am obsessed with the wash of these jeans, the raw hem and the price!
I Got This Graphic Tee // Do I even need to explain this one? Instead I’ll just give you the reminder that self-talk is more powerful than you think.
Puff Sleeve Cozy Top // Here’s when fashion meets comfort. The most amazing fabric (you may want to sleep in), but on trend and polished enough for virtual meetings.
The Jogger // Joggers with high-waist seamless bands are all the rage right now for good reason. It’s like a hybrid of your favorite leggings mixed with your favorite sweats. Take these for a walk around the block (or 47).
The Pleated Lounge Pant // Spoiler alert – not all lounge pants are created equal. We love ones that have that amazing fabric, but also fun details that set them apart from the pack.
The Jumpsuit // Throw it on and go. What are we doing today? Organizing? Baking? Day drinking? This cozy little number is ready for anything.
The Tie-Dye Dress // My heart skipped a beat when I saw this new arrival. Who doesn’t love wearing a big ol’ t-shirt (oh excuse me, a t-shirt dress) and one that has subtle tie-dye (#nowtrending) has a new space in my closet. When I feel like getting dressed this month and maybe go outside to wave to neighbors from afar, you just might see me in this dress.
Striped Henley // It’s preppy, it’s a little sexy (?!), its not an oversize tee that we’ve all been living in so pop this on and see how your mood changes! Wear it with the pleated lounge-pants, the mom jeans, the denim shorts. Try NOT to wear it. We dare you.
Striped Tunic // To wear with your favorite leggings. The end.
The Summer Fleece Sweatshirt // It is exactly what it sounds like – a lightweight pullover that you will put on when you crawl out of bed and may never want to take off. We won’t tell if you swap your pj pants out for a pair of denim shorts and go on with our day. In fact, that is exactly what we plan on doing for this piece.
The Perfect Rain Coat // Because…. April showers are a thing. And getting outside EVERY. SINGLE. DAY is oh so important right now.
The Draw String Short // We haven’t been trying out every self-tanner under the moon in quarantine for nothing? Show those legs, girl! These are our comfort pick for when you want to get dressed, but not really.
The Button Fly Dark Wash Short // The price of this was too tempting NOT to add to our capsule. Because April weather can be tricky, I can’t wait to wear these with that summer fleece sweatshirt or the striped henley. As much as love jeans and a tee, I also love shorts and a long sleeve.
The Striped Skirt // Vertical stripes are having a moment – a moment that we can all agree should stick around! I had to include this piece, because even though we may be quarantined, there are still dress up worth occasions. Whether you strut around the block in this skirt and the “I got this” tee, or where it for Easter at home with your family, this skirt will make you feel good.
We can’t wait to style these pieces all month long for you! If you happen to buy one and love it and take picture of yourself wearing it… well then, GIRL, we want to see it! Tag us on social @themotherchic and use #themotherchicstyled. We may just send a few of you a fun surprise!
