Date night… let’s just say it is a rare occurrence. And now that we are following the stay-at-home orders it’s been tough to convince our parents to “babysit” our kids over FaceTime so we can steal a minute alone. But with some small prep and little imagination you can turn your living room into a wine tasting room or transform your bathroom into a 5 star spa. Each of the ladies of The Motherchic planned a little date night complete with recipes, mood music and a fun date night outfit (makeup and hair totally optional).
Abby’s Wine and Cheese Pairing Date Night
I can imagine that I am not the only one that is kind of “over” cooking dinner. To be honest, my favorite meal is cheese and crackers which requires very little cooking. So, skip the pots and pans tonight and break out the fancy wine glasses. Maybe even some cocktail napkins for extra flare. Set the mood with this romantic date night playlist. And test out some unique wine and cheese pairings. Here are three favorites:
- Malbec with Cheddar (aka mac and cheese)
- Sauvignon Blanc with Goat Cheese (tangy and terrific)
- Prosecco with Parmesan (celebrating something?)
Christine’s Grecian Escape Date Night
My husband and I have never been to Greece, and at this rate we are not going any time soon. So I’m deciding to bring Greece to us…kind of. Personally, to keep the theme of the night going, I would opt to watch Mama Mia! but the hubs isn’t a huge fan of musicals. What he IS a fan of, however, is this Rosemary Lemon Chicken (usually made in skillet, but I love the taste of grilled chicken more!), and it’s super easy to prep ahead of time. Pour me a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region both for meal prep and dinner and crank up some slow tunes to get the mood going. I’ll throw on my fancy dress, sans shoes, and sashay into the family room to watch a documentary.
Lindsey’s Smokin’ Date Night
I have to laugh because if we really want a moment alone it would have to be at like 10:30 when all of the kids are asleep. I can *barely* stay up that late anymore so it’s all about being creative – or just letting the kids play on their iPads so we can have an at-home date night. While I have been cooking a LOT more these days, the perfect date night for me would be completely hands off – as in ordering taking out from one of our favorite local restaurants. We’d start the night on our porch swing drinking a Paper Plane cocktail (1 oz bourbon, 3/4 ounce amaro, 3/4 ounce aperol, lots of fresh lemon juice, shake with ice, pour) while listening to some of our favorite feel good music. Over dinner, why not a fun game? Finally one of our favorite things to do is sit around the fire pit and listen to music and talk.
Beth’s Bubbly Date Night
Date night on lockdown is a whole new ballgame for me. I want to keep things romantic but with two eleven year olds craving attention because they are bored is a real mood killer. To makes things easier, I chose a meal that we all enjoy, well 3 out of 4 ain’t bad! I love salmon and love it even more on the grill. Sprinkle a little salt, pepper, EVOO and lemon and yum! I dice and roast the potatoes while trying to pass them off as mini french fries and then cross my fingers that I am not the only one eating the steamed broccoli. After I send my kids to dine in el basamento, the hubs and I pop a bottle of chilled Prosecco and enjoy our meal together. Bon appetit!
