Thank you to Saks OFF 5TH and ShopStyle Collective for sponsoring this post.
You know those times when you are SO excited for an upcoming holiday party that you can taste the appetizers and envision someone (besides yourself) doing the bedtime routine at home. You can hear the glasses clinking and the laughter of friends who don’t get together as often as they wish filling the room. All day you bustle with excited jitters as you anticipate a fun night out. And then it happens. The sun goes down WAY too early and you think to yourself, “Wine on my couch in my pajamas actually doesn’t sound so bad right about now.” I feel you, girl. I’ve been there. This year, however, I feel like I need to make up for lost time and get my booty out the door…. and not knowing what to wear will NOT be an excuse because of the simple outfit combo anyone can pull off. Dresses and boots – it’s as simple as that.
When styling dresses and boots it’s all about proportion play. As with everything in fashion there are no “rules”, but here are two foolproof combos that always work: Short dresses pair well with tall boots, and longer dresses pair well with short boots. I have two examples below from Saks OFF 5TH which is always my go-to spot for finding the most exquisite fashion pieces for less.
Short Dress + Tall Boots
This flowy, floral number doesn’t need much else. I love the collared neckline and tiered skirt details for a polished yet playful vibe. I paired the dress with quite possibly the coolest tall boot I’ve ever worn. It is made of a stretchy knit material and has a chic (yet walkable) stiletto silhouette.
Long Dress + Short Boots
Another combination is pairing a longer dress with a shorter sock bootie. I love this outfit for those girls who live in places where winter is mild. The green/tan combo is wintery but weather appropriate.
