Organization Helpers to Kick off the New Year

January 3, 2022

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that my “winter break” was spent at home organizing everything I could get my hands on. HOPEFULLY, we are moving at the end of this year and the amount of stuff in my home has me cringy. Will need to consult the tweens of the world to see if that word is still in for 2022, but I digress. I think my main motivation for organizing at this point in my life is thinking about putting my house on the market. I don’t want people opening drawers and then running for the hills! Bit by bit, room by room, I will get our act together. I spent the last few days tearing through my house to make it a little less cluttered and it is oh so satisfying. I thought I would share a few things that help to keep me organized. I actually updated this post from last year to add a few more organization “helpers”.

First a few tips to help you cut through clutter

  1. Start by making three piles….. donate, sell, and trash!
  2. If you haven’t used it, worn it, thought about it in the last 6 months, put it in the appropriate pile. Go with your gut. Repeat after me: “I will not overthink it.” Good. Glad we are on the same page.
  3. Whatever you keep, designate a space for it. If it doesn’t have a space, it will contributed to clutter, get lost, and you will spend your precious time that should be spent working out, planning healthier meals, chugging water and being nicer to your kids looking for it!

And if you are really ambitious… a few more ideas….

It’s all about the bins, people! Bins make items in your pantry, closet, drawers, bathroom and fridge more visible and accessible. Bins are so basic, but SO life changing.

Clothing, for me, is one of the hardest things to keep organized. My job lends itself to having more clothes and shoes than the average person, so I really try hard to keep things organized. In my office I have lots of clothing racks, but in my house, I have one set of drawers and a very small closet. Here are some organizers that help keep everything tidy!

TOYS! Love them and hate them. Living in a house with lots of kids means toys are pretty much everywhere. I try to contain them to the playroom and basement, but let’s be honest, they are all over the place. I can’t go to bed with a messy house, so I’ve set up some easy toy storage stations so they kids can clean up themselves… well, most of the time.

Keys, wallet, phone, mask…. no matter how many times we run through that mental checklist, something is always missing. Here are a few helpful organization hacks that just may help you only have to go back inside from your car once. Okay maybe twice.
